2017 17U Firecracker Baseball Team Rankings

1) CT Rivals

After being knocked off in the Championship Game of the 4th of July Showcase, the CT Rivals were out to prove that the run to that Championship Game was no fluke. They proved that it wasn?t with their 2017 Colonial Clash Championship in the 17U Division at Pace University. The Rivals performance in these two tournaments vaulted them to the #1 Ranking for the 2017 17U Firecracker Baseball Rankings for 2017. After going 5-2 in the 4th of July Showcase, the Rivals followed that up with 6-0 record in the Colonial Classic, to finish 2017 with an 11-2 record in Firecracker Events for the 17U Division. 2019 Vincent Caccavale was named Tournament MVP for the CT Rivals at the Colonial Clash. The following Rivals players have committed to play College Baseball: Sean Melaven, UCONN (walkon), Scott Ziegler (Brandeis), and Jack Nolan (Central Connecticut State). The Head Coach for Rivals was Kevin Rival, and the General Manager Chris Darby.

2) Team Mizuno 16u

Another 16U team is featured as our #2 Ranked Team for 2017 coming out of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Team Mizuno was the 2017 Champions of our 4th of July Showcase Tournament in Providence, RI. They went a combined 6-1 over the 5 days of tournament action, including 3-1 in pool play and then knocking off the CT Rivals by a score of 3-2 in highly contested Firecracker Baseball Championship Game at Brown University. Several players from Team Mizuno's 16U roster have already committed to colleges, including UMASS Amherst's 2018 commit RHP Bradley Collins, Salve Regina University's 2018 commit LHP Trevor Dickson, along with Babson University's 2018 commit Will Cournan who was named 2017 17U MVP of the 4th of July Showcase Tournament. Team Mizuno's 16U program was coached by Matt Phinney along with Matt Greenberg and the program director is Sean Crawford.

3) Boston Prospects 16U

The Boston Prospects 16U Team, out of Duxbury MA, is your #3 ranked Firecracker Baseball 17U team for 2017. The Prospects reached the semifinals of the 4th of July Showcase Tournament, with a record of 5-1, while giving up an impressive 12 runs in those 6 games. The semifinal game was a terrific pitcher?s dual vs. a tough CT Rivals team, but the Prospects would fall 1-0 in another well pitched game for their staff.

4) Baseball Unlimited 17U

The Baseball Unlimited Tigers 17U, out of Waltham MA, come in as our #4 Ranked 17U team for 2017. The Tigers, coached by Larry Scafadi, made a run to the Semifinals of the 4th of July Showcase, going 4-2 along the way and allowing only 10 runs over their first 5 games. The Tigers 2017 roster consisted of the following players: Will Berlin, Michael Bollas, Jack Browne, John Corrigan, Patrick Duffy, Ben Joiner, Chris Leary, Matt Longfield, Neil Melley, Matthew Morrison, Charlie Schroeder, Andrew Sullivan, Jacob Wang, and David Warfield.

5) East Coast Eagles White 16U

The #5 team for 2017 were the East Coast Eagles White 16U Team out of East Bridgewater MA. The Eagles came in to the 4th of July Showcase and won the Bob Manosh Pool with a 4-0 record, but would fall to the eventual Tournament Champions Team Mizuno 16u in the First Round of the Playoff. Coach Rich Chuckran brough the following players to our event in 2017: Matt Achin, John Carney, Chase Chuckran, Brett Doherty, Finn Doherty, Liam Goldthwaite, Jack Grafton, Chris Jenkins, Hayden Lens, Kevin Moriarty, Cole Perkins, Matt Scibilia, and Ryan Shea. We look forward to their return to our 2018 event as one of our all-time leading programs in Firecracker Tournament Appearances!
